ABSTRACT

The present study consist of a group social skills training programme, from which it is analyzed and studied the relationship between the increase of social skills and the reduction of anxiety levels, evaluated en its three response systems.
A variety of studies reflect the inverse relatioship between anxiety and the social skilled behavior. This is so that the contribution made between the training programme in social skills no only we obtain in a direct way an improvement of them, but also, in an indirect way they seem to facilitate a great reduction of anxiety in all related areas to the social and interpersonal sides incluiding clinic aspects.
The mechanisms that explain this relationships are not yet clearly defined. It has been appointed the influence of different variables according to the different explicative models of the adquisition and the anxiety maintenance (exposition to anxiety situations during the training, cognitive variables modification as the self-efficacy expectations, the increase capacity to control de social situation with the consecuent reduction of the anxiety potenciality, etc.) Probably all of them are the ones which in a jointly way can explain this anxiety reduction.
As assessment instruments it has been used the Inventory of Situations and Responses of Anxiety -ISRA- (Miguel Tobal and Cano Vindel, 1986, 1988, 1994); the Multidimentional Scale of the Social Expression, Cognitive Part -EMES-C- (Caballo, 1987) and the Multidimentional Scale of the Social Expression, Motor Part -EMES-M- (Caballo, 1987).
Finally, pre and post-treatment results regarding the different variables included in the study as well as its relationship among them are presented discussed.
