The Affect Intensity Measure (AIM), developed by Larsen (1984), measures a unidimensional construct known as Affect Intensity, which describes the intensity experienced by emotions. In this study, Larsen's AIM factor structure is analyzed. 524 University students (146 male and 378 female students) completed the scale. The results show a factor structure composed of four factors: Positive Affectivity, Negative Intensity, Serenity and Negative Reactivity. These results dispute the unidimensionality of the scale and are consistent with other authors' findings. The implications of these results are largely discussed in the article.
